From today's Straits Times:
"It also emerged that Ms Lau and several of the new leaders worshipped at the Anglican Church of Our Saviour in Margaret Drive, which takes a strong stand against homosexuality.
.
.
.
Among the supporters of the new team are staff and members of the Church of Our Saviour, who have been encouraging people to join Aware and support the new team.
In a weekend sermon posted on its website, Pastor Derek Hong urged the women in his flock to "be engaged" and support Ms Lau and "her sisters" at Aware. He said: "It's not a crusade against the people but there's a line that God has drawn for us, and we don't want our nation crossing that line.""
Oh, the incredulity of it all. You think what? Declaration of holy war? And despite denials by the women saying "oh we are not doing this because we're Christians", well it's utter bullshit. You think it's not obvious enough where all of your origins are?? You're making the rest of the Christians look bad. I have Christian friends, and I think that they're really nice people. I used to be neutral towards all religions. Now I'm finding it very hard to be neutral to yours. Stop doing stupid things and being like the over-enthusiastic people who try to evangelise you the moment you step out of the MRT station and tell you that you will OMGBURNINHELLL if you don't believe.
Asking people to join for the sake of supporting the new exco is PLAIN WRONG. You join Aware because you support their CAUSE, not because your "sisters" are in deep shit and they need more people to swing votes in their favour to bail them out of the shitstorm they stirred. I hope these church-going people THINK for themselves, instead of doing things just because their pastor (who apparently has the wrong idea why people should join Aware) says so. So you think your pastor is always right? Have you seen pastors going to jail before?
But more importantly, STOP GIVING FEMINISTS A BAD NAME. It's utterly disgusting. Why can't you just say who you really are, instead of hiding behind a false front? Now all those people who call themselves feminist are going to be grouped together with you. I personally believe in equality between genders, but I'm not going to step out and say I am one because of the associations with the people like you.
Singapore is a SECULAR nation. The line drawn by your god doesn't apply to a SECULAR country. We are also MULTI-RELIGIOUS, so don't come pushing your religious ideas on others. You wouldn't like other religions to push their ideas on you, would you? Why not just set up your own religious club or something. Or is the hidden agenda that of evangelism? The hijacking people at MRT stations trick getting too old, I suppose? Hijacking people was soooooo yesterday. We hijack secular organisations now! Yeay! D:
Anyway if you want it this way, the next time another group whose religion encourages homosexuality is going to come up and say "OUR GOD SAYS WE MUST BE HOMOSEXUAL AND THE NATION IS CROSSING THE LINE. WE NEED TO TAKE OVER AN ORGANISATION!!!!111" and then drama is going to start all over again because you're not respecting their rights. Who's to say that YOUR rights are more valid then THEIRS? And yes, they think that their god exists as much as you insist that yours exists, so it's not a valid argument.
It's not like we're asking your kids to be homosexuals for goodness sake. Teach them whatever you want. But don't try to teach the other kids that as well. And good job shooting yourself by indirectly criticising the government by saying that they allow people to promote homosexuality in schools. Please remember that you aren't invincible.
"The Ministry of Education reiterated this is a letter to The Straits Times yesterday.
It said that parents and students in schools that ran Aware's programme had not fiven any negative feedback on it.
Neither had it received a complaint from Dr Thio, it added.
.
.
.
In the letter, MOE said the schools "found that the content and messages of the sessions conducted were appropriate for their students and adhered to guidelines to respect the values of different religious groups".
It also reminded parents that they can choose to keep their children out of such programmes."
So where are the "flabbergasted" parents you spoke of? Were they flabbergasted because the question you posed to them was "Do you know that schools are encouraging homosexuality?" instead of "What do you think of the sex education programme in schools?"?
Right back at you.
